Admissions Criteria & Process
Medical Center Nursery School is open to children from the age of two years up to the age of six. Generally, half of the student body is comprised of children whose parents are affiliated with Columbia University, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. The school is also committed to serving families and children from the community.
Children should be able to participate in the activities of a regular, developmental early childhood program. All children must have a physical examination, required immunizations, and a dental examination before the date of entrance.
The Medical Center Nursery School admits students of any race, religion, ethnic background, or sex to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnic background, or sex in the administration of its educational policies.
Parents should complete and submit the application along with a $60.00 Application Fee, preferably during the fall of the year prior to enrollment eligibility. Following receipt of the application, school visits for parents and child are scheduled, typically from early December through March. These informal visits are arranged to give parents the opportunity to see the school "in action." Families also may visit the school prior to submission of the application to see the physical facility.
Notification is made in March for the academic year beginning the following September.
